This publication, available as a prĂ©cis or full-length report, is the latest in the biennial series of AIDS vaccine blueprints IAVI has produced beginning in 1998. The Blueprint aims to set the record straight about the current state of AIDS vaccine research and development and offers a series of interim targets to bring the field closer to the ultimate goal — a safe, effective and accessible AIDS vaccine.
The Blueprint proposes that progress be measured against shorter-term scientific milestones such as:
• solve the neutralizing antibody problem and the cell mediated immunity (CMI) problem;
• trim and improve the AIDS vaccine pipeline;
• sustain the AIDS vaccine effort by ensuring adequate clinical trial and human capacity;
• train the next generation of researchers; and
• secure long-term and flexible financing commensurate with the needs of AIDS vaccine researchers
